To install offshore-substation at weight of several thousand tons on their foundation structures usually heavy-load floating cranes are used. For the Baltic-2 substation with a total weight of 4,300 tons our client WeserWind GmbH followed an alternative strategy. The concept consisted of a floating platform that simply doesn’t need a floating crane for the installation. After completion of the platform inside of a construction dock at a Kiel-based shipyard the platform was put afloat like a ship-newbuilding. Parallel our naval architects computed the weight of the platform based on precise draft readings. Furthermore we also calculated the necessary ballast weights for exact even-keel adjustment to achieve correct floating position of the platform for its marine transportation to the windfarm.
- Planning and preparation of weight determination and floating procedure
- Preparation of MWS relevant documentation for final approval
- Coordination with client, manufacturer, and MWS
- Calculation of real weight
- Calculation of necessary ballast weights for exact even-keel adjustment to achieve correct floating position of the platform
